Womens health > how long does it take for the canesten tablet to work?

Posted by admin on July 29th, 2010 and filed under womens health | 4 Comments »

i took the tablet sat evening just wondering how long does it take to clear thrush up,

Usually about 24-48 hours. No more than three days. You can also use the topical Canesten cream as well? This might give immediate relief. If symptoms still persist after three days, with no sign of improvement, see your GP as it may not be thrush you have.

It depends if you took it orally or ‘otherwise!’ it should take 3 days or so to clear it up but if you are still feeling uncomfortable get the cream as well to help soothe the itching – the joys of being a woman eh!?

I have found the oral tablets to work very effectively and quickly (normally in 12 hours to feel some let up in symptoms and then 24 hours to feel more or less back to normal).

It’s worth noting that you may have passed the thrush on to your partner (men don’t have symptoms) so when you take the tablet, it’s worth giving him one as well – so it wipes it out for both of you. Otherwise, every time it clears up with you, he can give it back to you straight away. :(

The tablets are quite expensive if you buy Canestan / Difflucan brands etc, but most chemists (boots, superdrug etc) do their own brand version which I’ve found to be just as effective.

    Hope you feel better soon.

It really depends on how bad your thrush is. For some women it starts getting better after one to two days. For others its still not better after the dose of canesten tablets.

There are a range of things you can do outside of the tablets and creams to help.
    1. If you wear tight pants, nylon underwear, or stockings this will increase the chances of you getting thrush because it restricts the airflow in the vagina. You’re best to wear cotton underwear (no g strings) and to stay away from tight pants until it’s cleared up.

Thrush pores can stay on your underwear even after washing and washing powder can also make your symptoms worse. I recommend washing it plain, boiling hot water which will kill the spores.

You can get it from bacteria from your anus. Make sure you wipe front to back.

Don’t use soap, douches, deodorants etc in your vagina area – it makes thrust worse.

And if you are sexually active then you can also get it from your partner (they can reinfect you). It’s not a sexually transmitted disease, its just that yeast has what they call ’spores’ which can be transferred from person to person.

    2. Diet – there is a diet called the candida diet (candida is another word for thrush) however there are mixed medical reports about whether it works.

If you’re going to cut out anything, cut out SUGAR and YEAST. The reason being is that thrush is yeast and feeds off sugar. So if you continue to add more sugar and more yeast to your body (which is already got too much yeast) it will make your symptoms worse. This also means stay clear of fruit and alcohol. I would recommend doing this for two weeks and see if it gets better for you.

    3. Natural rememdies. Garlic is brilliant and there are a few garlic doches and natural remedies around that will help you if you would rather go natural. Garlic is an antifungal (which will help get rid of the thrush and keep it away). There are lots of products that do this as well such as Threelac however Garlic is just as good and cheaper. If you use the oral medication from the doctors this will perform the same function (its an anti fungal).

4 Tea Tree oil is great for any inflammation, swelling or itching that you may have. You can dilute it and apply to the area with cotton wool – it is an antiseptic and will help calm down the irritation. The cream is also good to use though I’ve found that it doesn’t always help itching or swelling.

    5. To fast track, you really want to focus on getting rid of all the thrush toxins as fast as possible (if you can handle it, and it sounds like you can). You can do this by doing a colon cleanse, either with a package one or do one naturally, by going on a candida diet or by getting colonics. It’s up to you which one you use. The colonics is fastest however is not everyone’s cup of tea.

    6. After you’ve got rid of it, then make sure you put good bacteria back into your system. Easiest way is through acidopilious. You can get it in tablets or buy it in yogurt – make sure it says Live acidophilus and that it is plain (non of that sugary stuff otherwise you’ll be worse).

Lots that you can do and if you ask me if you still have it after the tablets I’d focus on the following
    1. Sort out the clothes so that that area can breathe. Wear cotton underwear and make sure you wipe front to back.
    2. Take live acidophilus to restore the healthy bacteria to your system.
    3. Cut out sugar and yeast for 2 weeks and see what this does for your symptoms. It will stop feading the yeast, which is what you want.

Reassess after this and work on the next recommendations. The website below is brilliant
