Earth Focus: Coastlines, Coal Controversy, and Climate Change Refugees

Posted by admin on July 28th, 2010 and filed under health education | 4 Comments »

More Earth Focus at http://www.linktv.org/earthfocus
A new Indonesian law may open the world’s largest coastline to commercial development — at stake are fragile coastal ecosystems and the lives and livelihood of the people who depend on them. As demand for coal grows, mountaintop coal removal in the Appalachian Mountains becomes more controversial. “Battle for the Mountains” profiles the polarization of communities in West Virginia where coal extraction keeps people employed at great peril to the environment. Only two percent of rural Ethiopians have access to electricity, but solar energy is changing all that. In the rural Ethiopian village of Rema, solar power is helping promote health, education and economic growth. Filmmaker Jennifer Redfearn speaks about her new film “Sun Come Up,” which tells the story of New Guinea’s Carteret Islanders who are forced to move to Bougainville, a land torn by civil war, to escape the rising seas. The Islanders are among the world’s first climate change refugees.

How do I eat healthy living in a dorm? Is eating sandwiches from restaurants healthy?

Posted by admin on July 26th, 2010 and filed under healthy living | 5 Comments »

i’m trying to lose weight as well as a lot of body fat percentage….the thing is I don’t hav ea kitchen in my dorm area..
the lettuce doesn’ keep fresh in my mini fridge…..
do you think the college cafeteria food is healthy if it’s not deep fried?

Dorm eating can be healthy… the key is to exercise and try to eat low fat (no extra mayo, butter… cut back on fried foods, pizza… etc). Also, many dorms offer healtheir alternatives.

Yes, sandwiches are a good way to go… just watch out for the mayo and cheese.

In fact, college is the best time to lose weight. You have more free time (compared to working 40+ a week)… you have access to the gym, the track and a lot of hot babes to motivate you… lol.

Gaining weight in the dorm is quite common, especially for the girls. We had a name for that phenomenon which I don’t remember. It’s akin to the "secretarial spread".

What is the difference between health and wellness?

Posted by admin on July 26th, 2010 and filed under health wellness | 3 Comments »

erm..
its like the difference between being healthy and feeling heathy..
being heathy… involves doing physical and mental exercises, hence being heathy and looking heathy too..
feeling heathy… looks heathy but actual fact is not as fit as presumed..
like some slimming salons they tend to use body wellness etc.. guess its the "playing" of english words..
most pple will presume body wellness is being heathy but in fact its not really…
:)
