How does healthy living fit in with current society?

Posted by admin on May 28th, 2010 and filed under healthy living | 4 Comments »

Do you think society encourages a healthy lifestyle, or encourages an unhealthy lifestyle? Do you think society ever discourages a healthy lifestyle?

What do you imagine most people think of when they hear "healthy"? All-natural foods? A healthy weight? Being in-shape? A combination of several things?

How can you tell if someone is unhealthy?

I’m simply curious to see what kinds of opinions people have about this broad topic. Write as much or as little as you like about any or all of the questions, or include another aspect of health and society if you have another opinion.

I think we’re tempted into an unhealthy lifestyle, but society encourages us not to take the bait and become obese. Obesity is generally is generally frowned upon in America, and people are encouraged to go to the gym and shop for more healthy foods. However, some people aren’t able to resist the loads of unhealthy foods.

I think someone who is seen as "healthy" has a well-balanced diet (meaning a reasonable amount food from each section of the food pyramid), exercises every day, and maintains a low amount of fat.

Someone who is unhealthy is usually obese, or can be found sitting around a lot. There are other types of unhealthy too, like people who smoke, take drugs, or have some sort of illness. Those can’t always be recognized by sight.

Can you think of some interesting facts?

What are some interesting facts/ questions (that someone can research) you can think of that can have to do with;
- Nutrition and wellness.
- Interpersonal relationships.
-Consumer resources.
-Family and community connections.
-Human Development.
-Family.
-Parenting.

Depending on your target audience, you can write about things like:

–how the Wii Fit impacts people’s workout regimen
–personality and compatibility studies (i.e. does eHarmony’s system really work in pairing people together?)
–the effects of a family’s socioeconomic status and their involvement in their communities

Why do media like CNN talk so much about health and nutrition, but never cover drug use in schools?

Posted by admin on May 28th, 2010 and filed under health and nutrition | 3 Comments »

Isn’t ILLIGAL drug addiction a very serious health problem? By our silence are we saying it is socially exceptable? Is the left leaning media covering up the depth of the problem? Why the silence?

You have watched very little outside of "entertainment" programming if you think the networks have ignored the problem of illicit drugs. Further, your comment "left leaning media" is absolutely meaningless. Lefties and liberals do not condone substance abuse any more than righties and fascists like the Bush administration. We all recognize how serious a problem substance abuse is.
There are, however, other problems just as serious and just as urgent. Malnutrition among school-aged children is one of them. Sex abuse of children by clergymen is another. Contamination of our water supplies and of our meats is another. So you tell me: shall we ignore the risk of mad cow disease and report exclusively on the dealing going down on the corner? Should we ignore increasingly threatening environmental degradation in favor of describing how your shlthead of a boyfriend does marijuana? Which problem shall we report and which shall we ignore?

What is the difference between Health And Wellness?

Posted by admin on May 28th, 2010 and filed under health wellness | 1 Comment »

This is my homework for Health class, lol think you can help me out?

Wellness – 1. the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, esp. as the result of deliberate effort.
2. an approach to health-care that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.

Health- soundness of body or mind; freedom from disease or ailment: to have one’s health; to lose one’s health.

So looks to me the difference is that wellness is a successful conscious effort to be healthy, and health is just the state of being free from disease.

What are the characteristics of employee wellness program?

Not sure what you mean… But H&W is a wonderful option for any employee…

H&W usually means that the company is trying to provide and create healthier lifestyle options for its employees. Some companies have gyms, Yoga classes, pool, spas etc.

Some offer EAP Employee Assistance Programs in order to help employees deal with stressful issues.

Some offers pre-exams and health care deductions when employees get their yearly physicals.

There is a lot to consider. Some companies are creating H&W initiatives in order to defray the rising costs of health care and to help their employees to stay healthier..

Hope this help>>>>>

How do health insurance tax deductions work for a member managed LLC?

Posted by admin on May 28th, 2010 and filed under health | 1 Comment »

I own a business (LLC) with two other people. It is only us three; we do not have any additional employees. We pay for our health insurance through our business. Based on these facts, I was wondering how much I stand to save on my personal taxes. Is this a standard write off like any other business expense or does the IRS treat health insurance differently?

Multiple member LLC’s can be taxed 3 different ways:

1. As a partnership
2. As a C corporation
3. As an S Corporation

The deductability of health insurance premiums for your LLC will depend on which of the 3 types of entities your LLC elected to be taxed at (the default is the partnership form of taxation).

Typically, you will be able to deduct 100% of your health insurance premiums although there are some specials considerations for owner/officers of S Corporations who own more than 2% of the company.

If you speak with a CPA or qualified tax advisor they should be able to give you plenty of good tips. One thing that you may want to mention is a medical reimbursement plan. Here is some more detail on medical reimbursement plans:

Where do you get your sexual health education from?

Posted by admin on May 28th, 2010 and filed under health education | 7 Comments »

Did your school go into detail about sexual health or did you just learn about anatomy? And if your school didn’t teach it to you, where did you/do you get your information from? And how reliable do you think it is?

We got an all around education in my school. We were told about condoms and birth control too but they stressed that abstinence was still the best method for us youngins. They also gave us comprehensive lessons on STDs and how to prevent them should we actually engage in sex. As for all around comprehensive education, ie; "Women are crazy, men are stupid" I learned that from life, taking Human Sexuality in college and Dan Savage from his column.

The fact that kids in Florida, after years of the "abstinence only" education policy think that Mountain Dew can prevent pregnancy and that a shot or two of bleach can keep you from getting AIDS though terrifies me.
